The Three Lions Scout for World Cup Training Facilities Following Worries of Losing First-Choice Location to Holland.

The Football Association has dispatched officials to the US this week to look at potential bases for the forthcoming tournament, amidst increasing worries that their first-choice base could be allocated by the Holland.

Tournament Draw Complexities Change Preparations

Head coach Thomas Tuchel had earlier approved an FA proposal for England to locate in Kansas following a warm-up training camp in Fort Lauderdale. But, following last week's group stage draw, there are now fears that the Netherlands, who play their group stage matches in Kansas, will be given first choice on the desired facility at Sporting Kansas City—a state-of-the-art centre used by US Soccer.

The world governing body allocates training bases based on geographic location and FIFA rankings if there is competition, with the draw potentially placing the FA against the Netherlands and Argentina for sites in the tournament's south-central region.

Considering Other Locations

Given England's group stage matches set to take place in Dallas, Boston, and New Jersey, the FA is now understood to be investigating other options on the eastern seaboard. The FA started its scouting process for training camps at the start of the year, with Tuchel and technical director John McDermott visiting potential locations during the Club World Cup last summer.

In spite of this early preparation, there was always an understanding that the official tournament draw could significantly alter their plans.

Later Round Logistics Plans

England face the eighth most arduous group stage schedule in terms of mileage. Winning Group L would set England on track for a round of 32 game in Atlanta, then a possible last-16 tie in Mexico City.

  • Major Departure: The FA may decide to travel from match to match for the later rounds should England progress, a significant shift from its standard protocol of maintaining a fixed tournament base.
  • Tournament Organizers Encouragement: FIFA is understood to be recommending such a itinerant strategy for the vast 2026 tournament.

Once the base camp is confirmed, the FA will focus on organizing two warm-up matches in Florida at the start of June.
