France Probes Shein and Temu In the Wake of Adult Toy Scandal

Online retailers such as these four major platforms are currently under investigation in the French Republic for the allegation of enabling youngsters to view explicit information on their services, the prosecutor's office in Paris stated on this Tuesday.

The country's consumer protection agency had brought to light the retailers to the prosecution service on Sunday after expressing worries about the availability of minor-looking sex dolls on the Shein website over the weekend.

The French judicial officials explained that the online services are being looked into over violent, explicit or “undignified” messages that can be seen by young people.

AliExpress asserted that it takes the situation very seriously. The other retailers have also been reached out to for comment.

Wider Investigations and Company Reactions

These platforms are additionally under investigation over the dissemination of material related to children that are of a explicit nature, the agency said.

The cases have been passed to a specialized police unit, the legal body added. This division is an arm of the French police force that supervises the protection of young people.

The company commented that the items in dispute breached its rules and were deleted once it became aware of them.

"Vendors found to break or trying to circumvent these standards will be sanctioned in compliance with our guidelines," the platform declared in a statement.

On this Monday, the company confirmed it had outlawed the sale of every sex dolls on its website worldwide. The based in Singapore retailer also stated that it would ban indefinitely all seller accounts associated with the illegal distribution of the youth-resembling items and enforce tighter controls on its platform.

The French consumer watchdog, the DGCCRF, had remarked that the products' description and classification left "minimal uncertainty as to the illicit character" of the products.

The scrutiny of the platform coincides with the firm, which was started in the People's Republic of China, makes arrangements for the inauguration on this Wednesday of its first fixed brick-and-mortar store in the French Republic.
