Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have discovered plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer includes a hero that is truly a piece of poop trying to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: you only need a jump control. Across one hundred fifty challenges, battle mini-bosses and access a shop to purchase outfits for your poop character.
Plan your movements with caution, since one mistake requires starting over. Bounce on bubbles to propel yourself to new heights, cross disappearing ledges, and touch triggers to reveal secret routes. Earn UN-KOINS for buying challenging stages in which gameplay intensifies.
In terms of design, the demo shows off vibrant level designs and catchy soundtrack. The retro graphics with shifting basic polygons could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though tough to recall similar titles where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment have long included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Naturally, fecal references is present extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already received impressive recognition, like winning at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to arrive on Steam on November 19.
